Open Letter To Our Senior Classes of 2020

To the Senior classes of 2020,

From someone who voluntarily missed out on their senior year, my heart aches for you all. I want you all to know that this isn't the end. Yes, you will miss out on a lot but you can gain more also. As someone who voluntarily missed out on their senior year, you'll be sad. It'll sting and please mourn this loss in your life. This is your first chance to process grief and take notes for future reference.

Even though the circumstances of you missing your senior year and mine are completely different. I'm here to tell you that you can recreate all the fun parts with your friends as adults. There is no limit on having proms, sleepovers, dinners with friends, community service, and much more. You do not have to ever stop learning about life and how to enjoy it.

Take this time to give yourself breathing room and room to grow now. You have been forced into a step of adulthood, by the hand of fate. Do not feel rushed because of the world. This is a time to mold your future.

Be active in all aspects of your life. Be active in the movements you feel strongly for. Be active in your education, because it is 110% in your hands now. Be active in how you see the world, always ask questions, and verify answers. Question things you were taught. Do not worry about sounding stupid, because asking questions to fully understand the topic at hand is the smartest way to go.

I have no doubt that the class of 2020 will be shaping the world. Creating a better place for generations, old and new. Teaching those along their journeys; as they share and absorb the knowledge of the world.

You were robbed of these past few months of your high school days, but you were able to pick up and continue moving forward. Each Senior of 2020 that I have seen has gone above and beyond in these past few months. You all are showing the world how tenacious, driven, and creative you all are.

To the Senior class of 2020, from this drop-out to forced-outs; you are capable of handling what this crazy universe will throw at you. Throw it back twice as hard, kid. You are off to do amazing things that so many of us are unable to accomplish! I have the utmost faith in each of you.

Xoxo

Burlesque Coaching: A Brief History of American Burlesque

To begin with an overview of American Burlesque history, we must look at the word definitions and what it brought to the society it began in.  The word “burlesque” means: bur·lesque /ˌbərˈlesk/ noun noun: burlesque ; plural noun: burlesques an absurd or comically exaggerated imitation of something, especially in a literary or dramatic work; a parody. "the funniest burlesque of opera” The word derives from the Italian burlesco , which, in turn, is derived from the Italian burla – a joke, ridicule or mockery. Let’s take a short trip to North America in the beginning or burlesque… American burlesque is composed of three essential influences in the beginning years; Music Hall, Minstrel shows, and Victorian burlesque. These distinct performance artforms traveled to North America around the mid-1800s, gaining steady popularity in the 1860s. Evolving into the renowned performance art that we all know and love today.  Victorian burlesque (or also known as travesty or extravaganza) is a

Life's A Witch and so am I!

Greetings, my readers!! It has been a chunk of time, and another rotation around the sun! This post is going to be a two-for-one kinda party! I’ll be splitting this whole piece up into two parts. Less for y’all to read in one sitting. I’m gonna give a short in-general update and I want to share something that is an older slice of Ruby, but a renewed one.       First, boring updates! Unless you have been following my insta or are lucky enough to be connected personally on FB, you wouldn’t know that I am actively experiencing the rollercoaster that is Bipolar 2 life. Because I have been suicidal before (know I AM okay as I type), I knew the steps I needed to take to not get that deep again. As any mental health journey has its ups and downs, it’s important to speak up and stand up! Doctors and therapists can only do so much, the hard, gross work is up to you. There’s a difference between riding the rollercoaster and not getting off the ride. The twist to this piece is about the big
